It just helps keep from messing up the front in the event that you get close to a wall or a fence or something like that. Overall well-made and simple to install IF it’s for your mower, because it wasn’t for mine. It took about an hour to get this thing installed. I had to remove the top from my mower and drill holes because this is a universal bumper. In the end its installed and works AGAIN- this is a universal bumper
