Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal star in Scott Cooper's music drama-romance, based on Thomas Cobb's novel. Bad Blake is approaching 60 and has a string of marriages and a successful career as a country music star behind him. His life now consists of little more than travelling alone from town to town to play in small bars, stay in dingy motels and enthusiastically imbibe a regular supply of alcohol. Then he meets journalist and single mother Jean Craddock, who is initially interested in him as a potential story, but it's not long before sexual chemistry ensures they are also an item. She gives him the boost he needs to renew his contact with his one-time protégé Tommy Sweet, now a major country star, and thus the possibility of resurrecting his own career. But his battle with the booze is far from over, and it threatens to block his road to a new, fulfilling life.
