Todo lo que se llama en general el hinduismo sufrió la influencia de esta corriente y se vio penetrado por ella; se resienten de ello las escuelas de yoga, la especulación posterior a los Upanishads, los textos de Visnú y de Siva; suscita en el propio budismo una nueva corriente, el Vajrayana (la "Vía del Diamante" o "del Rayo"), asocia, finalmente, por una parte, con las variadas formas de cultos populares o de las prácticas mágicas, y, por otra parte, con las enseñanzas estrictamente esotéricas o iniciáticas.
