Take your audio recording gigs with you wherever you want to go with the RME Babyface digital audio recorder. This mobile device literally fits in your pocket or guitar case, and allows you to transfer both analog and digital recordings directly to your computer as it interfaces with both Windows and Mac systems. From recording live sessions to composing music in the park, or just using the RME Babyface as a Hi-Fi music player or home studio breakout accessory, adding this converter to your audio gear meets your recording, transfer, and playback needs. RME first developed the Multiface digital system for solving mobile audio needs, then progressed to the Fireface series. Babyface is the next level up from Fireface for high-tech mobile audio interfaces. RME’s Hammerfall audio core used in the Fireface and RME’s PCI line of interfaces is used in the Babyface to produce ultra-latent sound. Additionally, the analog circuit design is what gives it exceptional noise and distortion values, with balanced analog XLR I/Os (in/outs) and TRS phones outputs. Clear sound quality is provided by SteadyClock, which reduces jitter efficiently. Its two digitally controlled preamps are 100 percent adjustable on the unit itself and allow for a gain of up to 60 dB. For digital I/Os, the recorder includes an optical TOSLINK I/O is used as an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF optical at up to 192 kHz. This ADAT capability gives you a whopping 10 analog input channels and 12 output channels packed in a compact interface. When you’re ready for playback, put on your headphones for a full audio experience of up to 192 kHz through RME’s high-tech AD/DA converters. Outputs on the device are easily adjustable with the main volume knob, and the sound is accessible through the headphone output as well as the breakout cable attached to the unit. For input, directly plug your guitar or other instrument into the device and switch one input to Hi-Z mode. To complete the package, the Babyface is also a MIDI, allowing you to record your tracks digitally for mixing and editing on your computer with a MIDI software like TotalMix or TotalMix FX. RME’s TotalMix software is a DSP mixer that feeds both reverb and echo effects through the unit without causing overload to your CPU. The unit has one USB 2.0 port, which is also compatible to USB 3 chipsets. The USB pro audio technology engineered by RME gives super low latencies on the Mac and PC through the use of two firmware versions for both systems. Other features include the USB 2.0 port with two ports for optical I/O (which automatically detect SPDIF or ADAT input signals and switch between the two), and a 15-pin D-sub connector (which accommodates the audio box’s breakout cable.)The breakout cable provides four XLR balanced connections for analog I/O, including your mic, one 1/4-inch TRS connector for phones, and two DIN connectors for MIDI I/O. Some additional features include two digitally controlled microphone preamps, and LED bars on the top of the unit that show both level and gain meters for visual support to your audio input and output. This portable pro audio system is part of RME’s FireWire and USB series, which also includes the MADIface XT, MADIface USB, and MADIface Pro as well as the Fireface UCX and UFX series. Adding the RME Babyface to your audio gear lets you take advantage of a long line of high quality interfaces for your music recording, transferring, mixing, and listening pleasure.
