"Among the 27 review and original research articles are accounts of the origins, history, and current status of shape-selective catalysis by pioneers Paul B. Weisz, Nai Y. Chen, Paul B. Venuto, and Clarence D. Chang. Others cover general features, the catalysis of organic reactions, methanolconversion to gasoline and olefins, paraffin cyclization and aromatization, the conversion of monocyclic and polycyclic hydrocarbons, and new concepts and catalytic materials. Most of the papers are from a symposium in Dallas Texas, March to April 1998; others were invited to flesh out the treatmentas a general reference for scientists and engineers and an introduction for graduate researchers."--SciTech Book News, "Among the 27 review and original research articles are accounts of the origins, history, and current status of shape-selective catalysis by pioneers Paul B. Synopsis
When chemical reagents are combined some of the reagents remain unmixed when the reaction is complete. Catalysts can reduce the amount of unmixed reagents, making the reaction more efficient, and the shape of the catalyst can be an important consideration. This volume surveys the field and collects new research on both experimental and theoretical aspects of shape-selective catalysis and catalytic materials., Shape-selective catalysis is important for environmentally-benign chemicals synthesis and hydrocarbon processing, because it provides specific pathways leading to desired products. This book contains 27 peer-reviewed chapters by some leading experts, pioneers, and active researchers in this area. It provides accounts on both historical developments and the state-of-the-art as well as future challenges. The review and original research articles covered a wide variety of topics including (1) introductory account and general overviews, (2) catalysis of organic reactions, (3) methanol conversion to gasoline and olefins, (4) paraffin cyclization and aromatization, (5) conversion of monocyclic hydrocarbons, (6) conversion of polycyclic hydrocarbons, and (6) new concepts and new catalytic materials. The structure and the contents of the book are such that it will be useful not only to scientists and engineers involved in related research and development, but also to researchers and graduate students who are new to this area.
