Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich VWL - Geldtheorie, Geldpolitik, Note: 1,3, Universitat Regensburg (Lehrstuhl fur Wirtschaftsgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Seminar: Finanzkrisen und Wahrungskrisen in historischer Perspektive und internationalem Vergleich, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Juli 1944 fand in Bretton Woods die Internationale Wahrungs- und Finanzkonferenz der Vereinten und Assoziierten Nationen statt. Erklartes Ziel war eine umfassende Neuordnung der Weltwirtschaft nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, und so trat am 27. Dezember 1945 - nach der Ratifizierung durch 30 Staaten - das Abkommen von Bretton Woods in Kraft. Auf Basis dieses Abkommens wurden der Internationale Wahrungsfonds und die Internationale Bank fur Wiederaufbau und Entwicklung gegrundet, Ziel war die Starkung des internationalen Handels, eine engere wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, sowie ein internes und externes Gleichgewicht. Des weiteren legten die USA und Grossbritannien, als ehemaliges Leitwahrungsland, in Bretton Woods den Grundstein fur das Festkurssystem der Nachkriegszeit unter Gewahrleistung moeglichst freier Konvertibilitat der Wahrungen. Die Mitgliedstaaten verpflichteten sich fur ihre Wahrungen entweder Goldparitaten oder Paritaten zum US-Dollar, der wiederum selbst eine Goldparitat aufwies, zu vereinbaren. Damit wurde der US-Dollar zur neuen Leitwahrung der Weltwirtschaft und die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika konnten sich ihre wirtschaftspolitische Vormachtstellung in der Nachkriegsara sichern, da das Abkommen von Bretton Woods eine enge Verflechtung von US-amerikanischer Wirtschaft und Weltwirtschaft unter US-amerikanischer Vorherrschaft zur Folge hatte. Dennoch hatte der US-Dollar als Leitwahrung auch mit einigen Problemen zu kampfen, auf die im vorliegenden Text ein besonderer Schwerpunkt gelegt wird.
