I made the fortunate mistake of painting over them. After 6 hours the paint wasn't dry so I cleaned everything with acetone. The antique effect it had on the overall look of the cane made it pop. With a little light sanding with some 400 and then 600 grit those inlays pop. I've gotten tons of compliments on it overall. Nice work whomever you are.
