Illustrated. First Edition/First Printing. Bound in gilt decorated brown cloth boards with gilt titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. This adventure story, set in 1873, is centered around a man's desire to find his long-lost father, who supposedly was wrecked at sea and living on a deserted island. Interspersed throughout are black & white engraved illustrations as well as ads for a variety of products (many of which have quaint illustrations). Apparently, the author and publisher was also the proprietor of a Boston perfumery. The story is an entertaining vehicle for presenting locales throughout the world where are found ingredients for perfumes. Interesting advertisements for every kind of product, from clothing, printing, bicycles, patent medicines, perfumes”
