He retired as Deputy Chief and went on to become Chief of Police of the Lubbock, Texas, Police Department.Upon retirement as chief of the city police, he began a new phase of law enforcement as chief of a school district police department in Lubbock. He continues in that role and serves as President of the Texas Association of School District Police.Thomas Nichols is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Texas Municipal Police Association, and the National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officers. He has lectured throughout the United States on violence in American society; has overseen muti-agency narcotic investigations; has provided executive protection to heads of state; and, has commanded an intelligence unit that investigated major organized crime figures in the United States.A graduate of the University of Arizona, Thomas Nichols also has graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Executive Development Program, both of which are located at the Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia. He graduated from the Senior Management Institute for Police in North Andover, Massachuchets, the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration narcotics and dangerous drugs investigations training, and the California Department of Justice Organized Crime and Intelligence Branch training on Informant Development and Maintenance.
