Lxxxiv, 756 pp + Lxii, 785 pp. Indices in both volumes. Quartos, in full calf leather with gold ruling to front covers,, decorative gilt spines with "1759" stamped at the bottom of, both volumes (although the 2nd was published in 1773). Polished, speckled edges, marbled end papers, both title pages are red, and black, elegant head and tail pieces throughout. Texts are, at the top of the page with two columns of discussion under., Bookplates of Dean Gaisford in both volumes. Some rubbing and, wear to the covers, but still quite handsome, interiors clean, and unmarked. Pieter Burman the Younger (nephew of the famous, Dutch classicist) , 1713-1778, was a Dutch philologist, known, for his erudition in Latin poetry. Here, Burman collects, epigrams and poems collected by Scaliger, Pierre Pithou, etc. ,, and arranges them into 6 categories across the two volumes for, further study.. A handsome set of an important philological and, classical work, with a nice provenance. Entirely in Latin., Heavy for international shipping.
