I wanted to mount a 7 speed cassette on a 9 speed freehub. Be aware that you *must* file the spacer down about 1mm or so in three spots to clear the rivets holding the cassette together as a unit. Don't file the rivets on the cassette! Super easy, but necessary to ensure the cassette lays flat. Look online for a video tutorial. It's on my Trek 720 and works great. ��
