Featuring an EcoTrac classification and a small form factor, the HGST Travelstar Z5K500 hard drive is good for both the environment and your storage and computing needs. It's easy to install on any personal or work computer that accepts a standard 2.5-inch internal volume. This hard drive has an 8MB cache coupled with a 5400RPM rotational speed, which allows it to retrieve data quickly and protects your data for reliability and safety.Several other safety features are built into the on-board controller attached to the Z5K500 chassis. When this hard drive senses that data written to a block can't be read back, it immediately reads the data back from the buffer. Feedback sent to the SATA interface tells the drive to flush these excess bytes to a clean area on the disk while marking the worn area as bad. You won't have to worry about keeping the platters in good shape. The Z5K500 hard drive takes care of all of this for you.In order to keep seek time and latency figures low, the HGST Travelstar controller also takes care of hard disk geometry calculations. Your computers won't have to know where any cylinders or sectors are on this hard disk. It uses the same logical block addressing scheme that SSD accessories do, which means your system software will simply see a list of arbitrary block numbers to work with. This scheme also helps keep data transfer rates as high as 3GB/s. The advanced format of the SATA cards might even see slightly higher GB/s rates when working with an HGST Travelstar.This 500GB HDD has plenty of storage for all of your files, documents, songs, and videos. All second generation notebook models that work with 7mm SATA volumes will instantly detect these drives in the BIOS or UEFI setup screen. The manufacturer tested the 0J11285 HDD with a number of different configurations. It's rated for use with Asus, Hitachi, and Dell brands of mobile devices. Since it supports GUID partitioning, you can also use this 500GB storage volume with Apple products.Even the most hardcore gamer wouldn't be able to max out that massive 500GB capacity. That makes this volume ideal for use with gaming consoles that accept discrete drives. It supports the FAT32 file system, and offers excellent performance even when many directories are fragmented. You won't have to worry about any local lag or glitches when you have directories loaded with game data and save files.Initializing it for use with this system gives you the ability to move game executables, save files, and transfer movies that are nearly 4GB each over to the disk. If you prefer to play PC games and use the NTFS file format, then the file size is essentially limitless. It's compatible with external USB adapters, so you can take all of your game files with you without needing to move them onto another disk. You might even want to configure it for network storage so that you could stream games to a series of connected clients.
