Regulator appears to either have a short,or is not compatible with my system. When installed it creates a 2 1/2 amp drain., which I have isolated to the regulator.

It was brand new tested before shipping,That drain could be due to a bad stator or rectifier,so sometimes by just replacing a regulator you might not be able to fix the whole alternator.
