Synopsis
Rapid developments in spectroscopic techniques during the last two decades have revolutionized the approach to organic structure determination. Advanced topics in spectroscopy pertaining to infrared (IR), ultraviolet (UV), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and mass spectroscopy (MS) are increasingly being introduced at the postgraduate level. Students majoring in organic chemistry have long been handicapped by the lack of availability of a suitable textbook covering the various aspects of organic spectroscopy. In order to succeed in graduate courses as well as in research, it is essential that students have a solid understanding of these techniques to elucidate and confirm the structure of organic molecules. Written primarily to stimulate the interest of students in spectroscopy and familiarize them with latest developments in the field, the book begins with a general introduction to electromagnetic radiation and molecular spectroscopy.
