The hardened steel sole makes contact on all 4 corners. It did need initial adjustment; but now repeatable in both 180 degree orientations. The bubble is the correct size, filling center gap of indicator lines. Testing shows that each segment represents 0.00023" of elevation over 12". I have to admit that I should do more testing to confirm that, but that's right in line with what's advertised.
