Seller Notes: “Good-Very Good overall antique cond: The tiny black pitting that's seen on the print plate's ... “Good-Very Good overall antique cond: The tiny black pitting that's seen on the print plate's surface & not found on the print margins, is an indication this isn't foxing but irregularities from the metal print plate, which would've picked up black ink & transferred during the printmaking process, to the paper's surface w/a high amount of pressure. The print was taken out of the frame for cleaning since the glass covering the print was quite dirty. The double matting & thin-profile frame are both original to how the print & another print by the same artist, were both found. It's likely the c. 1919 early Michel Figensten etching was reframed in this thin-profile, painted wooden frame, most likely from 1930-1950. The print however, was in this frame for a very long time. It was reassembled as it was found after cleaning. The cleaning was done to allow proper viewing of the artwork. This is an early German Expressionist work by Michel Figensten & an exceptional one. Tremendous figuration.”
