I don't think it does work; it just looks like it should work somehow. When I use hardness testers, I generally just write the numbers down anyway. I will be very happy if I figure it out. Apart from this, it's a pretty badass little machine, I hope it doesn't break during fieldwork. Looks easy to use.Purchasing, shipping, etc. was a breeze.
