Traces the history of the trolleybus since the first experiments in this mode of electric transport were conducted over a century ago., Interest in old trolleybuses increased when it became obvious in the early 1960s that their days were numbered. More recently, this interest has been boosted by the prospect of a new generation of trolleybuses serving the public in Britain in the twenty-first century. Meanwhile, hundreds of hours of loving care have been spent on restoring those trolleys which have survived over the years. They may be admired as static exhibits in Belfast, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow and London, but rides can still be enjoyed on them at Carlton Colville, Suffolk and Sandtoft, North Lincolnshire. Old Trolleybuses traces the fascinating history of the trolleybus from the first experiments in this mode of electric transport carried out over one hundred years ago to the retirement of the trolleybus system in recent decades., Interest in old trolleybuses increased as they began to disappear from the urban landscape in the early 1960s, and this interest has been boosted in recent years by the prospect of a new generation of trolleybuses designed in - and for - the twenty-first century. This interest, at once nostalgic and forward-looking, has led to loving restorations of surviving examples, meaning that it is possible in cities including London, Glasgow and Dublin to see and ride in functioning buses.
