It's August, 1955. The threat of polio, not Covid, changes the habits and lifestyles of all in Chesterfield County, VA. The cooling waters of nearby Pocahontas State Park become off limits as well as outdoor play in the heat of the day. Instead, five friends spend their evenings sending each other off on dares starting at the abandoned Civil War manor at the entrance to their neighborhood. When one accepts a dare to jimmy the door to the incinerator building at McGuire Veterans Hospital across the railroad tracks from the manor, their lives are changed forever.
