In 1923, Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius commissioned twenty unique postcard designs from the school's master instructors Paul Klee, László Moholy-Nagy, Wassily Kandinsky, and Herbert Bayer, as well as from several of its promising students. These bold and colorful lithographic prints were distributed as promotional flyers for the Bauhaus's first exhibition. There, Gropius heralded a new age of industry in the arts-one in which the tools of mass production could be harnessed for individual creative expression-and thereby set the course for the future of design. Reproduced here for the first time in their original postcard format exactly 100 years after the Bauhaus's inception, these seminal works perfectly express the spirit of the early movement. They are also each a miniature piece of art in their own right, whether sent to a friend or displayed for your own pleasure., Presented as a set of three copies each of the original 20 cards inside a giftable hardcover box, these bold, colorful postcards preserve a major early design statement of the Bauhaus In 1923, Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius commissioned 20 postcards from artists such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky to use as promotional flyers for the school's first exhibition.
