This is a risk we take when we buy a 60 year old part. I didn't realize that what I thought was grease/dirt build up on the spring in the photos was actually rust/corrosion. Not really the seller's fault, but I wish the lighting in the photos was a little better, or the description had a little more information other than just stating that it's used and to check the photos.
