Synopsis
The U.S. electoral system is broken beyond repair, says W. R. Wilkerson III-it's time to throw it out and start over! The politicians don't even represent those who voted them into office, and they certainly don't represent those who voted for the losers. Wilkerson cites numerous "squeaker" elections that were decided by as little as a single vote, where fully half the people were completely unrepresented. At the top of his prescription pad for a New America, Wilkerson suggests that issues could be decided by a direct popular vote, as they are in New England's long-running Town Meetings. Book jacket., Every vote really does count. Wilkerson cites election after election decided by the closest of margins. He also lays out a detailed prescription for using modern technology to replace the broken electoral system with full direct democracy. A representative legislature is unnecessary when citizens make their own decisions by majority vote and the will of the majority is carried out.
