    Discs are held together by spring tension. So when mounted in the vertical position, and the top is opened for cleaning, any dirt particles in the disc pack will be fall into the housing. Would prefer the disc pack to be held by a nut, so dirt particles remain in the disc pack when removed for cleaning. Horizontal mounting would avoid this issue, but I had to mount mine vertical in direction to the indicated flow. Still good for the price.
