Synopsis
Cavour was perhaps the key figure in the process of Italian unification. As prime minister of Piedmont, still reeling from military humiliation by Austria, he turned his backward and insignificant home state into the nucleus of the new Italy by his astute manipulation of the European great powers, becoming the united country's first prime minister in the year of his death, 1861. Harry Hearder's incisive study, setting Cavour and the Risorgimento in the full context of international European power-politics, reveals a ruthless, egocentric and far from balanced man - but a politician of genius., Born in Turin in 1810, Cavour abandoned an early military career because of his uncomfortable liberal opinions, to concentrate initially on restoring his family estates. After travels in France and England, he was drawn increasingly into the politics of his native Piedmont-then a backward and insignificant state, still reeling from comprehensive military defeat by Austria, the major occupying power of northern Italy. In 1852 he became its prime minister.

The books shipped fast and arrived in great condition. The packaging was very nice and neat, and easy to get into. The books were well insulated by the stuffing of the package (packing paper rolled up along the insides.) The books were just as described and pictured, so no problems there. I definitely got my money's worth on this order for sure & would definitely order from this seller again. I'll be keeping them in mind the next time I need such an old specialty book (awesome to get it bundled)

Though I haven't had a chance to look through all the volumes that came in this order, they appear to be in excellent condition and look very good. I'm really pleased that the seller (Tom the Book Guy) got my shipment in the mail promptly and sent the box by Ground Advantage so they arrived in only two days. I'm also pleased that these books were priced so reasonably. They are all high-quality academic books and I'm sure I will enjoy them in the weeks ahead. Thanks for such a smooth transaction!
