Created by Brenda Hampton (7TH HEAVEN), the ABC Family series follows freshman Amy Juergens (Shailene Woodley) as she navigates the treacherous nine months to birth. At home, she's flanked by a supportive mother (Molly Ringwald) and a philandering father (Mark Derwin); at school, she's wooed by the sweet-hearted Ben (Kenny Baumann), a boy who didn't get her pregnant but seems willing to help her raise a child. Hampton surrounds her lead couple with plenty of high school drama and every perspective on teen sex, including a promiscuous siren, a "True Love Waits" Christian cheerleader, and plenty of kids keen on the idea but frightened at the actual prospect. Never heavy-handed or titillating for the sake of it, THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER is a kinder and more balanced portrayal of adolescence than TV typically affords. This release includes every episode from the debut season.
