The doors off of an 84-89 4Runner are a direct bolt on to an 84-88 pickup so of course the mirror will fit either model. The mirror is best suited for the vent window doors (found on both 84-88 4Runners and pickups) so maybe that is where you got confused. Anyhow, thanks for your purchase.
