Max Carr was born at the end of the year 1919. His childhood of grinding poverty instilled in him a deep desire to succeed. He became a combat cargo pilot in the China-Burma-India theatre, flying the Curtiss C-46 Commando on a total of 283 missions ¿over the hump¿ in the Himalaya Mountains. After the war, he returned to Austin and began a long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. When he met Cassandra Colvin in 1969, Max¿s life took a surprising turn, one that has led to a 38-year marriage involving travel, adventure, and professional growth, as well as deep mutual respect and affection. In these pages, through stories recalled in vivid detail, Max lets us hear the story of his remarkable life.
