I think that I speak for more than a few people when I say that nothing was going to prepare me for the flood of emotions that completely overwhelmed me when I found out that I had an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Just the word cancer terrifies the psyche. Cancer's terrible power comes in part from its own twisted and diabolic logic: It's the body turning against itself for reasons that defy the imagination. It's not a possibility that anyone wants to think about. To me, cancer had always been a far-fetched idea that happens to "other people," not me or anyone in my circle. I am just too healthy to have cancer. I should be immune from that. Well, I was woken up to an unpleasant reality. Cancer is not a respecter of persons. Welcome to my world. Welcome to the world of cancer and pain, as experienced by me. I don't know the depths of anyone else's story. This is mine, warts and all. In this book, I do not intend to recreate something that has been done already. I do not intend to follow some prescribed parameters or some generic model in writing a book. This book is about how the news of my being diagnosed with prostate cancer has generated and resurrected feelings in me, good, bad, ugly and victorious, that made me who I am today. My prayer and hope is for God to allow this chapter of my life to become a source of blessing and hope to anyone who feels that life had dealt them a rough hand.
