Reviews
"No reader, not even poetry-phobes, should miss the bright revelations of Nobel laureate Szymborska....Syzmborska is sharply ironic and lithely philosophical, pondering the phenomenal precision of dreams and the elusiveness of meaning. The neat, prancing lyrics collected in this slender, piercing book are delectable and profound." Booklist "There is an easy charm to Szymborska's small but expansive poems." - Los Angeles Times, "No reader, not even poetry-phobes, should miss the bright revelations of Nobel laureate Szymborska. Synopsis
An exciting collection of poems by Wislawa Szymborska. When Here was published in Poland, reviewers marveled, "How is it that she keeps getting better?" These twenty-seven poems, as rendered by prize-winning translators Clare Cavanagh and Stanislaw Baranczak, are among her greatest ever. Whether writing about her teenage self, microscopic creatures, or the upsides to living on Earth, she remains a virtuoso of form, line, and thought. From the title poem: I can't speak for elsewhere, but here on Earth we've got a fair supply of everything. Here we manufacture chairs and sorrows, scissors, tenderness, transistors, violins, teacups, dams, and quips . . . Like nowhere else, or almost nowhere, you're given your own torso here, equipped with the accessories required for adding your own children to the rest. Not to mention arms, legs, and astonished head.

- _***s (40)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThis book was hard to find and it came in exceptional condition. It came quickly and the packaging was done with extreme care which I appreciated because this is an older book. The seller took great care in bubble wrap but also a specific cellophane sleeve to put the book in and then put it in a very padded envelope so not even a corner was affected. The book was even better than de This was a great value for a book I've been looking for and I will definitely use the seller again. Very happy!!😊
- s***i (327)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThis seller is excellent in all ways! The score was wrapped in bubble wrap, then mailed in a heavy-duty, large paper envelope -- great protection! The score is in much better condition than indicated in the listing; it's like new except for a note on the inside front cover. Seller has been excellent in all ways, so I highly recommend them.Lady in the Dark by Moss Hart, Ira Gershwin (Chappell Music Company) (#186071078359)
