But the Maine hamlet is also being visited by two new strangers--antiques merchant Richard Straker (Donald Sutherland) and his menacing companion Kurt Barlow (Rutger Hauer)--whose sinister dealings prompt Mears to investigate a rash of townsfolk disappearances with the help of his former grade school teacher Matt Burke (Andre Braugher), lovelorn small-town waitress Susan Norton (Samantha Mathis), and local parish priest Father Callahan (James Cromwell).
