The so-called "Waltz King" is paid a suitable tribute here by his hometown orchestra, the Vienna Symphonic. Austrian conductor Erich Leinsdorf mans the baton over a full orchestra and two noted soloists, Werner Hollweg and Helen Donath, as they lovingly perform a full program of Strauss' most acclaimed works. Highlights include excerpts from the operettas "The Gypsy Baron" and "Waldmeister," and an encore performance of the "Emperor Waltz."
