These machines are old, so don't expect a brand-new one when ordering. My VU meter stopped working shortly after I received it, and the tape counter only works when the machine is lying down. I'll fix the VU meter later; and I have fixed the tape counter. It's not a big deal. I'm sad to read that the VU stopped working for you after some time. But the belts should have been replaced as indicated.
