About this product
Product Information
The 1978 one-cent piece was produced during a time where silver had already been eliminated from the coin making process but the price of copper was continuing to rise, making it almost more expensive to produce than the US cent was actually worth. These coins were made out of brass, which was a combination of 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc. The obverse side of the US cent features the left side of President Abraham Lincoln's head and bust, which was designed by Victor David Brenner. The reverse side of this brass coin was designed by Frank Gasparro, and features the Lincoln Memorial. The 1978 one-cent piece is a part of one of the oldest coin collections in America's history, dating back to the coin's origination in 1909. The US cent was minted in San Francisco, CA, with 3,127,781 proof strikes made. The brass coin weighs 0.11 oz. and measures 0.75 inches in diameter, and features plain, rounded edges all around the perimeter of the coin as well.
