The plant balanced profits against worker safety, and Karen herself participated in this charade of economic survival...until the inevitable happened to her. Desperate people, young and old, enter the marathon to find a place to sleep and eat while thousands outside starve. While the dancers push themselves to the limit of their physical and emotional endurance, barbarous crowds come to watch, to cheer, to be entertained.
