This was caused by the jar being laid on its side with the glass jar lid forced against the edge of the box. Unfortunately, with a lack of packing material between it and the box, USPS crushed it and literally smashed the lid into pieces. The seller did, however, send the package on time and was what was ordered and the jar was in good shape. Now, however, I just a have a cookie jar with no lid :(
