Upon asking I was told it was updated because lg was ending support, and that it all works. Now I have a potentially compromised phone, and will need to flash something onto it in order to safely use it, but will cost around the same to ship it back as flash new firmware so I may as well keep it. If it was important to open the phone and use it it should have been mentioned, it becomes used once that happens.
