I used a hot-air gun. The important bit is getting a consistent and uniform heat flow all around the connector, to this end I used a table-spoon slightly squeezed together to act as deflector at the back of the wires to be joined . This action deflects the heat back towards it source and when the solder melts it melts at once all around the wires to be joined . Hope this is of help
