My “old” overdrive housing was broken and having to carry with me to Seattle as luggage was not a good option as it weights 52 pounds and would cost 200.00 in luggage fees. We do the core return to validate the warranty in place of charging a core fee to save the buyer from having to pay more upfront & then wait for a refund. Seems only fair that no core means no warranty. In your case, you were given the opportunity to pay a core fee & keep your old unit to have the warranty valid.. Choices made were by you before the purchase.
