A little dark, somewhat to be expected in a larger stone, so at its best in good daylight, which will not harm it. The natural inclusions are not all obtrusive, and the pleochromism, a famous feature of iolite, is here just about perfect, the overarching colour being the violet, with the pale and very transparent brown strongly apparent only from a lesser part of the viewing range.
