About this product

Product Information

The "divine Emmy" is still today considered the undisputed grand-diva of Czech opera, recognized in her day throughout the world for her passionate soprano and a life lived in extreme proportions. The list of her accomplishments was long and illustrious: a member of the imperial court opera in Berlin, and a soloist with the Covent Garden Opera, she became one of the highest-paid and most famous singers in New York's Metropolitan Opera. Much admired by multiple suitors, her love affairs assumed operatic proportions, and counted among them were tenor Enrico Caruso, and French baritone Dinh Gilly, who took it upon himself to learn Czech just so that he could share the stage with her. Imprisoned during WWI on charges of mafia collaboration and anti-Austrian activity, the prima donna's life provides fascinating fodder today, and this documentary features a biography and archival photos recounting her exciting history. Also included are some of the performers' most famous arias, which will captivate opera lovers and casual viewers alike.
