Notes
The Motion Sick is Boston's most-watched new indie band On January 13th, the band was named the Spin.com band of the day and subsequently, based on fan response, was chosen as the Spin.com band of the month. As a result, The Motion Sick will be featured in a half-page spread in the April issue of Spin Magazine. In addition, The Motion Sick are listed as a featured band for a Microsoft ad and as part of The Spin Essential Mix Music You Need to Download Now!in the March issue of Spin magazine. The album, which was leaked early to radio, has already received airplay and charting (including several CMJ Top 30 #1s) on dozens of college and commercial stations nationwide including Bostons own WFNX, WBCN, WMFO, and WMBR. Even before officially releasing Her Brilliant Fifteen, The Motion Sick were also interviewed for Bostons best underground music periodical, The Noise. All in all, it's pretty clear that The Motion Sick, a band whose name is derived from Victorian-era pirate slang for stowaways, won't make anyone queasy with their debut LP, Her Brilliant Fifteen. With nods to the popular music of the 50s, 60s, and 80s (the omission of the 70s was quite intentional), Her Brilliant Fifteen still manages to rise above the current recycled-rock trend to provide a refreshing, and often surprising, blend of hipster indie pop/rock, alt-rock, alt-country, and all with a sprinkling of old-school punk attitude. The strong focus of the band is on lyrical insightfulness and candor. Her Brilliant Fifteen is loaded with introspective stabs and clever quips and has the narrative power to draw in a broad range of listeners, young and old. 'After suggesting another Chris Carrabba copycat, The Motion Sick overturn a dumpster full of chunky guitar fuzz, smooshing his pompadoured noggin.' - Spin Magazine, March 2006 '...the band charms it's way through it all, allowing their addictive choruses to linger long after the album is over' - Spin.com 'This is a quirky, fun, emotional indie pop album loaded with irresistible hooks and infectious melodies.' - Impact Press '...candy delicious and as addictive as you can get.' - Smother Magazine '...there remains a shred of hope that new generations of social-minded indie bands lurk in the shadows.' - Indie-Music.com.
