This innovative critical reader provides accessible introductions to fourteen schools of thought, from the empiricist to the postcolonial, including chapters on Marxist history, Freud and psychohistory, the Annales, historical sociology, narrative, gender and history of the emotions among others. The first chapter outlines four questions designed to assist readers in eliciting and understanding the theorisation underlying a work of history: authorial context, temporal framework, drivers of change, and subjectivities. Subsequent chapters begin with a succinct description of the ideas integral to a particular theory. The authors then explore the insights and controversies arising from the application of this model, drawing upon debates and examples from around the world. The principal theorists are identified, as are the major critics. Each chapter concludes with a representative example from a historian writing within this conceptual framework. A short list of references provides a guide to further reading in each area. - t***t (305)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAAAA++++ SELLER!!!! Book was shipped very quickly and item price was also good. My only complaint is the shipping packaging. This book came loosely placed in a plastic bag so I can't tell if the damage to the dust jacket happened in shipping or it was already in that condition. But, as I already stated, the overall price was good so I shouldn't really complain. Overall, I've had positive experience with hpb-ruby so I'd still definitely recommend buying from them.
 - e***i (159)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseGreat book for a great price. Shipped quickly, but only packed in a poly bag, so the book suffered some mild corner damage in shipping. Aside from that, the book matched the description of its condition and I’m happy overall. Great seller!
