I double-checked the item after it was returned to me. It does measure 20 inches from arm pit to arm pit while laying flat which is a 40-inch bust when doubled. It is also labeled a size 40. I recommend that you measure the bust of your favorite fitting sweater so you know what your measurements are for your next purchase. I am not able to offer free shipping on returns, but you were refunded the full amount of the item minus the shipping cost.
