Additional information
Personnel includes: Kenny Burrell (guitar); Richard Evans (conductor). Recorded at Ter Mar Studios, Chicago, Illinois in September, 1967. Includes liner notes by Jim Rockwell. Digitally remastered by Shigeo Miyamoto using 20-bit technology. Despite the title of this album, the music has nothing to do with 52nd Street. Richard Evans arranged and conducted an unidentified string orchestra behind guitarist Kenny Burrell on the four-part "Suite for Guitar and Orchestra" and five briefer pieces (three Evans originals plus Dizzy Gillespie's "Con Alma" and "Wild Is the Wind"). Burrell plays quite well, as usual (he is among the most consistent of jazz improvisers), and, even if the music is not all that memorable, the results are pleasing. ~ Scott Yanow
