However, the external interface cable had a specialized connector at one end with USB at the other. It would have been preferable to have USB at both ends.

What you get is picture 2 and more defined in picture 3. Just a thin folded metal cover which DOES NOT clear the nvme board. I tried to use the spare silicone heat pad to lift the 'shield' so it didn't short out the board. It did clear but i'm not certain if that will effect heat exchange. It's acceptable i think but i'm far from happy with it. You can't advertise one thing and deliver another.
