The bottom nut is not supposed to be threaded all the way, but this one is. It is supposed to be able to tighten against the bottom of the tube, and allow the upper split nut to set top cymbal tension. But since this nut can't be tightened against the tube, it will spin loose as the cymbal is played.

They probably didn't endure any worse conditions in shipping than they will in a road case for live use. Enclosed in the package was a flier for other products by the seller. They caught my interest.
