Seller Notes: “A very nice copy, signed by Dennis Wheatley. This book is part of a collection formerly owned by ... “A very nice copy, signed by Dennis Wheatley. This book is part of a collection formerly owned by Miss Lucas, a book buyer for the Liverpool bookshop Philips Son and Nephew. Wheatley signed a copy of each of his new novels for her over a long period. Enclosed is a typed letter from Hutchinson's dated 26th October 1950 "we publish on 9th November......proof copy forwarded herewith". Original cloth hardback in its original dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is in attractive condition, with chipping, creasing and wear to its edges (see pictures). The jacket is not price-clipped, and shows the original 12/6d price to the inside front flap. The book itself is clean with some light browning to the prelims and page edges (see pictures). Front hinge cracked, but binding sound and square. A very nice example of the first printing. Dennis Wheatley (1897-1977), Britain's foremost writer of supernatural fiction, was a reluctant signer of his own work, and signed Wheatley books are relatively uncommon.”
