Synopsis
R A Fisher's classic The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection was first published by the Oxford University Press in 1930. It was the first attempt to assess and explain Darwin's evolutionary theories in terms of the genetic processes underlying them, and was also original in being the first book to establish a firm theoretical basis for evolution. Since then, it has become a classic text in evolutionary biology, with Fisher hailed as one of the greatest evolutionary biologists of this century. This Variorum edition will be the definitive version - the only version of The Genetical Theory in print: it will include both Fisher's original 1930 text and that of a second edition of the book, published by Dover publications in 1958, which is now out of print. It also has a new Foreword, some unpublished material by Fisher that he wrote in his own copy, and letters between Fisher and Darwin's grandson, Leonard Darwin. Students, researchers, and general readers with an interest in the history of evolutionary biology will welcome this new edition., This is the definitive edition of R.A. Fisher's classic work--probably the best known book in evolutionary biology after Darwin's Origin of Species . The book was the first attempt to assess and explain Darwin's evolutionary theories in terms of genetic evolution. Based on the original 1930 edition, the book incorporates the many changes Fisher made for the second edition as well as unpublished material taken from Fisher's own copy., This is the definitive edition of R.A. - c***2 (287)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI received an out of print book at a very nice price. Very carefully packaged and the book arrived earlier than estimated and in exactly the condition described in the initial listing. Highly recommend this seller for antique books. The seller really carefully handles the books and as someone also selling collectibles on eBay, it is nice to see other sellers carefully package items.LISTEN, GERMANY! - b***- (23)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseVery detailed and accurate description. I selected the purchase based on the specificity of the description, which addressed the appearance and (lack of) smell of the item—normally sellers don’t mention smell, but it is very important for purchasing very old books, so I appreciated that the seller specifically stated the book had a clean smell (and that the description was accurate). The item was carefully packaged and shipping was fast. Thank you!An Encyclopedia of Fairies: Hobgoblins, Brownies, Bogies, etc. First U.S. ed.1977 (#133966688118)
