Mia Fanali has no doubt that she is doing exactly what she is meant to do in this world. "I sing because it's what I was born to do," says the 37-year-old former Star Idol. "I cannot picture my life without it. Singing inspires me, frees me, and makes me feel like I'm helping people." Mia, who joined her first band at the age of 19, grew up surrounded by musicians. Being on stage, she says, is euph...oric. "It gives me an energy that I get from no other area of my life. I imagine it's what an athlete feels like." For her, nothing is more magical than when she's becoming the song and can see from her audience's faces that they're feeling it too. "Those are the moments I live for-it's as if the universe is telling me I'm right where I'm supposed to be." Mia says her most powerful performance was when, after winning Star Idol in 2005, she opened the Nutmeg Games at Harbor Yard. "I walked out on stage and saw 6,000 glow sticks in the air. Yes, I was nervous, but I realized, 'I can do this!'" Winning Star Idol encouraged Mia to take her career to the next level. Lucky for us, she has recorded an album, for which she co-wrote all 11 songs. She has been playing acoustic guitar and piano, both of which help with her songwriting. "Ten years ago I didn't think I could write a song, but then something happens that changes you and you realize you can do just about anything you set your mind to." She is happy to share her debut album with all of you, and for her tour with her original band. In the meantime, don't let anyone tell Mia she's too old to succeed. Although she was never young enough to try out for American Idol, this powerhouse is a born musician and a soon-to-be household name. As she says, "It doesn't matter how old you are or what you look like; you can stand out and rise above. Everybody has to start somewhere. I will keep following my dream."
