Notes
Mark was born in Southern California, but grew up in Colorado. He is currently a resident of Joplin Missouri Some of his fondest memories are of time spent exploring areas of the Mesa Verda and The Grand Canyon. Mark has always felt a connection with nature, the creator, and the indigenous people of this country. While at a Pow-Wow his wife became enthralled with the sounds of the Native American Flute. She purchased a flute as a Gift for Mark. Upon trying it he soon knew that the Flute was in fact the instrument he had been searching for. Since then, Mark has found great success performing at numerous events and sharing about the Native American Flute's history and music. As the former coordinator of the Cascade Flute Circle Mark still feels a connection with the Northwest. Mark's flute circle group sits in a circle to symbolize, that, while everyone is different, they are all equals. The environment is one of love and acceptance of all skill levels with a "no wrong notes" philosophy. Mark's philosophy is that not only should we share our hearts through the flute with each other, we should learn from each other. In 2006, Mark was involved with helping to make the first annual Pacific Northwest Flute Quest a success. One of the largest Native American Flute Events in the nation, boasting headliner performers every year. Woodsounds, Mark's first professionally recorded CD was released in Spring of 2007. The CD is a well-thought out solo flute recording with melodies that are memorable and heart warming. Brent Haines provided flutes and Jan Michael Looking Wolf performed on the CD. "Mark's style of playing is pure, refined, and original. His melodies capture the heart and beautiful spirit of the native flute. He is well on the way to being one of the premier flute players of our times..." ~Jan Michael Looking Wolf Mark's journey with the Native American flute has been one of joy, healing, blessing, sharing, acceptance and love, unity through diversity, hope, peace and one heart for all mankind. His desire is to continue helping others learn the flute through the Seven Directions Program. Mark continues as a volunteer for Flute Quest, and is currently working to bring the healing music of the Native American Flute to all who need it. Even though Woodsounds is a new release, Mark is currently working on his second CD, due to come out in November 2007.
